The Great Ones

The wholesome gods worshipped by civilised people of the Dreamlands. They are said to mostly reside in Kadath in the Cold Waste.

They comprise of:

  • Ariel
God of the blinding light of truth.
  • Bast
Cat-headed goddess of home and hearth, and defence of that home. Worshipped by the cats of the Dreamlands. Also worshipped by ancient Egyptians in the Waking World.
  • Hagarg Ryonis
‘The Lier in Wait’, though a beautiful humanoid goddess (All of the Great Ones are humanoid, thankfully) she is usually depicted as the reptilian ‘Lier-in-Wait’, an avenger of ills perpetrated against the Great Ones.
  • Hypnos
God of sleep, dreams and the border between the two.
  • Karakal
‘Master of the Flames’, fire god. Also worshipped by Wizards and sorcerers. Kelek can summon small, flying firey spiders that are known as ‘The Minions of Karakal’.
  • Lilith
‘The Queen of the Night’, sinister goddess of fertility and sensual black magic.
  • Lobon
    God of Peace.
  • Nodens
‘The Hunter’, ‘Lord of the Great Abyss’, God of journeys and endeavour.
  • Oukranos
God of the river Oukranos that flows through the Oukranos valley in the Western continent of the Dreamlands.
  • Robigus
God of fungus, wildlife and woodlands where the sun never penetrates.
  • Tamash
God of Illusion, Mysticism and the wise.
  • Zo-Kalar
God of life, death, the mortal cycle, births, passings-on and renewal. One of the most popular of The Great Ones with everyday worshippers of The Dreamlands.
(Of course, there are lots of other gods in and around the Dreamlands, but they’re probably best left undisturbed, and never even spoken about…)
